Polish farmers set up roadblocks across the country on Wednesday to oppose imports of agricultural products from Ukraine and EU environmental measures.
Farmers have blocked roads leading to the capital Warsaw and other large cities such as Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Bydgoszcz, stressing that they will not give up until all their demands are met.
Since last month, farmers have been closing border crossings with Ukraine in protest at what they see as unfair competition against the arrival of goods from the conflicted country.
EU countries and the European Parliament have agreed to cap some duty-free Ukrainian agricultural imports, such as eggs, poultry, sugar, oats, corn, and honey, in a bid to calm farmers’ anger.
